I just began running this year. I have been doing it in baby steps. In January I ran a 5K. It took me 41 minutes. My next run was in October and I ran a 5K in 35 minutes. I was so very excited and proud of myself! I still didn't consider myself a "runner" so I still haven't been to any of The Arlington Striders group runs. Even so, I follow all the messages from club members. I wish I could run with the REAL runners.
My husband, Vince has been running longer than me. He hadn't run a half marathon (though he did run that far on our trail near our house). I wanted a half marathon time on his record; so I signed us up for The White Rock Half. What was I thinking? The farthest I had ever run was 6.25 miles. I was nauseous the day of the race. We woke up to the rain and cold. I thought about not going. What kept me from backing out was the fact that I told all my patients I was going to do this run.
My hubby ran the race in 2 hours and 20 minutes and I finished in 3 hours and 8 minutes. I do not care about the time it took me. I FINISHED!!!! I am 52 and my hubby is 54. I now wear my Half Marathon Grandma T-shirt with pride!
I will be running a 5K next Saturday and after that The Jiggle Butt Run.
I may not be 'A Runner'; but I'm sure trying!
